I want to try the new MS Flight Simulator, and I was looking for a cheap joystick since I’m not enough of a flight sim enthusiast to justify more than about $50. I can’t find anything cheaper than this:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Funny thing is that looks exactly like the one I used back in the day for Mech Warrior etc, and there’s no way my parents paid that much (adjusting for inflation, obvs) for a joystick for me.
I remember a ton of cheap $
20-$50 joysticks being available about 10 years ago. Is that just not A Thing anymore, or is this because of COVID + new MS Flight Sim?

If you can find them in stock, this is (still) widely regarded as the best budget stick. https://www.amazon.com/Extreme-3D-Pro-Joystick-Windows/dp/B00009OY9U

Buy used! I have this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/324248422800 it has a throttle wheel and only looks mildly like a penis

I got nothing to contribute on the joystick front, but I’ll give a hell yeah to mech warrior

Yes. Because they basically don’t exist beyond a tiny niche. As bandit noted the Extreme 3D is the budget stick (and is basically unchanged since its introduction 15+ years ago):
It should be way cheaper than it is now though:
I’m guessing FS2020 has greatly increased demand.
FWIW I have a Saitek/Logitech X56:
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Throttle-Simulation-Controller-Gaming/dp/B079P6SSHP
That was $235 when I got it two years ago, and frankly it is not well built for a $200+ device.
Oh, and those CH/Thrustmaster sticks modeled on real planes were always expensive, though there were cheaper models where the hat switches did nothing.

Yeah, that Extreme 3D is over $100 right now.

Now I’ve got a whole different set of criteria.

Yeah it should be a ~$30 product, you can get it for $40 at Microcenter: https://www.microcenter.com/product/219464/Extreme_3D_Pro_Joystick

You need something that looks extremely like a penis?

I’ve got the older version of the X56, with the grey latchable flappy buttons instead of the toggles on the throttle. Love it!

I had to dismiss a joystick comment from Nibby once for that reason...

Mine costs me about $1100 a month in child support.
Put a sock on your pickle!

There are no more Sidewinder joysticks? I loved mine

Gotta go and find all those intro cut-scenes, where someone inevitably gets blown up

Behold, the cheapest joystick I could find !

play with this

I figure if the keyboard was good enough for Captain Picard, it should be good enough for me.

I still have the X-45, now 15 years-old, that I got for MW:4 Mercs, though I’ve had to put it in storage to make room to WFH during the Coron apocalypse. I’d kinda like to get MW:5, but being an Epic Store exclusive has cooled me on it.

Just like the good old days!

A touchscreen keyboard, too! Do you think it has haptic feedback?

As a boy in my mid
30's this does scratch a certain nostalgic itch.

In the 90s?, not likely. Which just reinforces that Jean Luc is a bad ass.

LCARS supports sliders though, so at least he has access to non-binary axis controls.

I had an app a long time ago that mimicked LCARS in my iPad. It was fun and all, but it reinforced how lousy the human interface of this supposedly futuristic OS was. That and tiny desktop screens o n huge desks.

Yeah I paid 30- @5 years ago when bf1 came out, as my ancient stick stopped being supported by well everyone.

I still have my 2600 and river raid, probably my favorite game for it
